The aging process takes a toll on the skin, especially in the forehead area where wrinkles form easily and the eyebrows droop as elasticity decreases. The tail of the eyebrow, also known as the outer brow, is exceptionally vulnerable to the aging process, and can actually begin to sag at an early age. Droopy eyebrows can make a person look sad, tired and old beyond their years.
To combat the signs of aging in the forehead area, brow lifts were designed to correct drooping eyebrows and wrinkles for a smoother, more youthful appearance. These procedures vary, and in this article, we'll explore the differences between traditional procedures and the LJO brow lift procedure.
Traditional Brow Lifts
In a traditional procedure, an incision is made from ear to ear just slightly behind the hairline. The sagging skin of the forehead is then pulled taut, the extra fat cells and tissue removed, and the skin is reattached in its new position.
Another type of traditional brow lift is less invasive and involves the use of an endoscope and tiny instruments through much smaller incisions along the hairline. The muscles under the skin and the skin itself are tightened and the eyebrows repositioned during the procedure and the incisions stitched closed.
Scarring is an expected part of the traditional brow lift, but it will be mostly hidden in the hairline if done properly. Unfortunately, many traditional brow lifts leave the patient with a perpetual surprised look because the skin is pulled too tight or the eyebrows aren't positioned correctly.
After the surgery, the skin on the forehead is smooth and free of wrinkles. Unfortunately, this procedure does little to address the sagging of the outer brow, which continues to give an older appearance even after the procedure. Even if the patient opts to undergo upper eyelid surgery in conjunction with a traditional surgery, neither adequately addresses the outer brow sag.
LJO Brow Lift
During a LJO Brow Lift, the exact location of the sagging is pinpointed and the correction is made there. Rather than lifting the entire forehead skin to raise sagging brows, this procedure lifts only the tail of the eyebrow, leaving the rest of the forehead in its original position. The result is a younger, more natural appearance and patients are at less risk for the permanent "deer in the headlights" look after the procedure.
Additional Benefits of the LJO Procedure
-No visible scarring
-Only takes about 15 minutes to do both eyebrows
-Can be used in conjunction with other cosmetic surgeries
-Can be performed with upper eyelid surgery to optimal anti-aging results
